This course provides a step by step introduction to reading non-linear information (charts, graphs, diagrams etc) at the pre-intermediate level. While following the course students also practice some of the keys skills required on the Task 1 Academic IELTS Writing Module. By the end of the course students have been introduced to various examples of non-linear information (pie charts, diagrams, bar charts with one set of data, line graphs with one line, simple processes, line graphs with one or more sets of data and bar charts with two sets of data) and can: understand basic lexis related to describing non-linear texts identify basic information presented in non-linear texts (i.e. title, axes, legends, measurements, etc.) understand how texts show data changes over time identify and follow steps shown in a process diagram compare information contained in two non-linear texts distinguish between key information and details compare data within a single pie chart, bar chart or line graph using basic lexis
