This advanced placement level course surveys the history of Europe from the Renaissance through the Twentieth Century. Students will examine the various political, diplomatic, intellectual, social, cultural, and economic trends occurring in this timeframe. The major topics and themes examined in this course will provide students with a critical framework for understanding the modern world.
Instruction will involve lectures, discussions, readings, research, and independent study. Furthermore, an emphasis will be placed on analyzing and interpreting primary sources, discussing their implications, and arguing reasoned conclusions. The course is fast-paced and will involve a substantial amount of reading, note-taking, essay-writing, presentations and other projects.
This course will prepare students to take the College Board Examination in Modern European History, which may entitle them to college credit. Students will be required to take the AP European History exam in the spring.
