This course, which has been developed by the RSE and the BCS Academy of Computing , is all about web technologies and how to build a website, including HTML. It is aimed at providing pupils with an understanding of modern information systems concepts. As well as lessons, exercises and sample answers, this resource contains suggested supplementary activities and inter-disciplinary learning opportunities.
The course supports a subset of the Information Systems Design & Development Unit of Scottish National 4 Computing Science. It can also be used to introduce Information Systems Design & Development in the National 5 course as well as support a number of the Level 3/4 Computing Science outcomes within Curriculum for Excellence.
Above all, this resource should not be seen as prescriptive. It contains guidance and suggestions as to the kinds of approach that can make learning more engaging, whilst fostering computational thinking and greater understanding of computing science concepts in learners.
Please note: While this resource has been designed to be used as a stand-alone resource, learners will benefit from having covered some computing science prior to this. There are three introductory/ intermediary courses by the RSE/ BCS available on iTunes U:
Starting from scratch: an introduction to computing science Itching for more: An intermediate course in computing science I love my smartphone: Mobile app development
