iTunes U

Council of Chief State School Officers - CCSSO

Student Achievement Partners, Unknown, EACS English8, Suzanne Lustenhouwer

This course is intended to deepen your understanding of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Shifts in English Language Arts and Literacy. The course will stimulate thinking around designing and delivering instruction matched to the CCSS and how this may change your classroom practice. The content describes how these standards differ from previous standards, thoroughly explains the required Shifts in instruction, provides classroom-ready resources, and offers tools for self-assessment. The CCSS give educators an unprecedented opportunity to work together across districts, states, and content areas to support each other, share innovative tools, and develop best practices. While this iTunes U course is primarily designed as a self-guided learning opportunity, throughout the course, you will notice numerous opportunities for discussion and group work. You can bring course readings and question sets on mobile devices to a professional learning community; you can also find hands-on activities and facilitation guides to print and use with colleagues in the professional development modules on our website ( ). We encourage you to use this course to learn alongside your colleagues not only in your building, but also across the country. In light of this, we welcome you to join our Core Advocates community in Edmodo (to join our group, click “Join” under “Groups” in the left-hand sidebar and then enter code “4q66q6”) to participate in discussion with other educators and to pose questions as they arise. It is collaboration such as this that will enable educators such as yourself to achieve the promise of the CCSS – to prepare all students for college and careers. Enjoy the course. We’re glad you’re here.
