Footing The Bill introduces students to an understanding of living costs and the different ways we to try to make ends meet. Students will research the costs of everyday food items and utilities which are essentials and work out if or how much might be left over for luxuries and other non-essentials. Students will calculate percentage profit and loss as well as mark-up and discount.
Footing The Bill looks into our Credit Card culture and shows the many pitfalls that people fall into when not using the cards wisely. Students will calculate minimum amounts payable, interest due and compare the different cards that are currently offered by banks and other financial institutions.
We also compare Credit Cards to Debit Cards, and explore Personal Loans and Housing Loans.
The course culminates in a task where the students research, plan and budget their school formal.
