The primary text for 6th grade math is Core Connections, Course 1 , published by CPM . The text is based on the California Common Core State Standards. The curriculum is full of interesting problems for students to solve that have relevant connections to real life situations. Lessons from the text will be supplemented with other activities to ensure that students have rich opportunities to work with the following core topics:
ratios and proportional relationships
number and operation
geometry and measurement
equations and expressions
statistics. Throughout the year, students are presented with opportunities to engage in the following mathematical practices:
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
Model with mathematics.
Use appropriate tools strategically.
Attend to precision.
Look for and make use of structure.
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
