Description
In this project-based short course, students will use the principles of Design Thinking and Autodesk® Fusion360™ to design, create, and share a 3D chocolate mold model. Students will develop problem-solving skills and apply their knowledge of research and design to create a viable design solution, and share the results. Along the way, students will level-up their design skill sets and tool sets by completing two practice design levels (beginner and intermediate) with associated design thinking activities, design vocabulary, and software tutorials before completing a final (advanced level) project. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to collaborate on the design of a product using different modeling techniques (freeform modeling, parametric modeling, and mesh modeling). Students will iterate on their designs with a focus on function. Finally, students will create 3D printed versions of their products to demonstrate concept mastery. The course will introduce students to the skills and tools used in the career fields of Engineering and Manufacturing. Learning Outcomes Use Design Thinking to develop appropriate design parameters. Describe the importance of sketching and drawing to engineering design and other iterative processes. Create and assemble a prototype using CAD modeling software. Utilize mathematics and dimensioning to establish viable design limits. Design, assemble, and animate parts using CAD software. Make parts using CAD software, adhering to given constraints. Explain how visual design can impact the success or acceptability of an engineering design. Translate specifications from a design brief into a functional design. Discuss the implications of product life cycle on successive engineering designs. Collaborate with a design project team.
