This English course continues the focus on the Common Core skills of reading literature and informational text, writing, speaking, listening, and using language and research skills as students explore thematic units revolving around a variety of genres such as novels, plays, and non-fiction works. Students will also continue to build upon critical reading, writing and thinking skills through reader-response, personal journals, literary analysis, and research. An additional focus remains on the development of higher level vocabulary and grammar. Anchor texts include The Cage and Shakespeare’s Macbeth .
This Grade 10 course is the second of the required four year course of study in high school English. Students will take the English Regents in January of their junior year.
