The 6th grade curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards. The primary math text for 6th grade is Connected Mathematics Project 3 (CMP3) . The curriculum is full of engaging problems that have relevant connections to real-life situations. The core text will be supplemented with other lessons and activities to ensure that students have rich opportunities to explore the following topics:
ratios and proportional relationships
number and operation
geometry and measurement
equations and expressions
statistics. Our overarching question in math this year is: How can I use what I know to figure out what I don't know?
Throughout the year, students are presented with opportunities to engage in the following mathematical practices:
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
Model with mathematics.
Use appropriate tools strategically.
Attend to precision.
Look for and make use of structure.
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
